| What can I do/use to set the color in fabrics so they won't bleen onto other fabrics when washing? |
I would suggest using a product called Retayne. It is a color fixative for commercially dyed cottons. For best results, treat fabric with Retayne prior to sewing or piecing. |

| When sewing the Turnover triangles together do you start your quarter inch stitching measurement to include the pinked edge or do you start your quarter inch above the pinked edge? |
The pinked edge of a Moda Turnover (triangle) is so fine that it will not make a difference either way. Turnovers are 6" triangles and are meant to be squared-up. |

| We wonder how to sew the wool applique for the Green Piece project. Can this be machine stitched and with what thread? If it must be hand done, what thread will give the best effect and results on the piece? |
We are encouraging applique of both wool and fabric, so here are some thread suggestions for both.
Wool... This can be machine stitched, but remember to use a very large needle and use the buttonhole stitch for a pretty look. Cordonnet by Mettler, 12 wt. Aurifil, or Embroidery Floss.
Needleturn for fabric... Any silk will do, but recommend Robinson Anton thread or 50 wt. Aurifil. |

The rule of thirds is about dividing your design into thirds, both vertically and horizontally, with an imaginary line. The intersections are a recommended spot to place your design focus. |

| How can you stop your fabric from fraying while washing? |
Snip a small triangle from each corner of the fabric. It simply will not fray. |

| Do you need to pre-wash Moda precut fabrics? |
Moda precuts are not meant to be pre-washed and patterns do not require you to do so. Washing precuts prior to use could result in fraying and is not recommended. |

| What is the difference between brushed and flannel cottons? |
Brushed cottons are woven fabrics that are brushed on one side after weaving. Thread count is like a regular fabric and it has a soft flannel feel. Flannel fabrics start with fluffy, flannel threads that are woven into fabrics. This gives a lofty feel, but has a looser weave and smaller thread count. |

| What is the Moda Wool made up of and is it machine washable? |
Moda offers two different wools. One that is 100% washed wool, also called felted wool. Felted wool has been machine washed and dried, which tightens the weave so it will not fray. The other wool is 80% wool / 20% nylon and can be machine washed. If you do not want the wool to felt, do notallow it to agitate. Let the machine fill with cold water, add soap if using any; you can let the machine agitate to mix in the soap. Add the woolens and press them down into the water, swish them just a little, very gently and push them under the water. Leave them to soak for 30 minutes. Set the machine to the portion of the cycle where it drains, then refills for the rinse without ever letting it agitate. Leaving the lid open on top loaders can help here. Let the woolens rinse, and go through the spin dry portion of the cycle twice. |
