The fabrics for this quilt were pulled from a 19th century antique quilt in our collection. Pieces were painstakingly reproduced in historical detail in an effort to maintain the beautiful balance of the original quilt. Once expanded into a full collection its' sophistication and detail is captivating. |

| Proceeds from this collection, Tradition, are donated to UNICEF, an organization that fights globally for children's rights.
UNICEF is one of the oldest and the largest children's charity in the world. They work in over 150 countries around the world (including the U.S. for emergencies like Hurricane Katrina) and their mission is to provide children with the things that they need to survive emergencies and to live healthy lives. The main areas of concentration are clean water & sanitation, nutrition, child protection, education and immunization. Believe it or not, 24,000 children still die EACH DAY from causes that we consider preventable (ie: the lack of a vaccine or clean water). As UNICEF's website (www.unicefusa.org) says, we believe that that number should be zero. UNICEF is one of the primary agencies working emergencies like Haiti and Pakistan (where 1/3 of the country is under water right now!) but much of what UNICEF does is also on-going around the world. For example, the $14,800 donation from Moda Fabrics could pay for almost 250 "School-In-A-Box" kits that each provide education tools for 40 students and a teacher. Or, for example, that donation could provide clean water for 400 children for over a year!
I can't tell you how much we appreciate your employees and their generosity. UNICEF is rated 4 stars from Charity Navigator (the hightest charity rating you can get) and will dilligently put your donation to work to help save the lives of children. Thanks so much!

"Alliances: People, Patterns, Passion," is the theme for the 2011 Alliance for American Quilts small quilt contest. This year’s theme is as open-ended as the last and celebrates cooperative relationships that work towards a common goal—Alliances! All quilts must be 16” x 16” and have a sleeve and label and all entries become a donation to the AAQ (to be auctioned in Fall 2011). Important: This year's deadline is much earlier: March 7, 2011. The reason: all entries will be exhibited at the American Quilter's Society show in Paducah, April 27-30! Our grand prize winner this year will have their choice of any Handi Quilter quilting machine!! Visit the "Alliances" homepage for full details, a downloadable entry form and a video showcasing the winner of last year's contest, art quilter Jamie Finga. http://www.allianceforamericanquilts.org/projects/galleries/Alliances/guidelines/. |

The fabrics from this collection were reproduced from a circa 1830-40 Lemoyne star quilt from upstate New York. A note attached to the quilt stated that fabric in the quilt was from the dress the maker wore the day she met her future husband. |

We found the original 1840-1860 quilt in Massachusetts. It is a quirky summer weight quilt with wonderful pinks and browns. The quiltmaker, perhaps a child, seemed to be an imaginative beginner... trying different blocks as she built the various rounds of this medallion style quilt. The workmanship is hit or miss, leading us to wonder if more than one person, perhaps a younger sister, helped piece this quilt. Our designers have squared-up the various rounds for faster and easier piecing. It is our hope that you will enjoy this one-of-kind quilt of pinks and browns. |
